EY taps Dave Burg to lead organization's cybersecurity consulting efforts in the Americas

Burg succeeds industry veteran Bob Sydow, who will retire

Ernst & Young LLP (EY US) announced today that Dave Burg has been selected as the new EY Americas Cybersecurity Leader within Advisory Services. Dave will succeed Bob Sydow as the EY Americas Cybersecurity Leader as of October 1, 2018. Sydow has announced his intent to retire in July 2019 and will remain with EY US until that date, continuing to play an important role advising on key accounts and driving strategic initiatives for the Cybersecurity practice.

“Bob’s legacy has been cemented by his incredible contributions to EY, our clients and our people,” said Hank Prybylski, EY Americas Advisory Vice Chair. “Bob has helped build our technology and cyber practices into market leaders over the past 22 years. Along the way, he has developed so many of our current and future leaders. We all owe Bob a great deal of gratitude.”

In Burg’s new role, he will be responsible for shaping the EY cybersecurity consulting strategy within the EY Americas area, working across the organization to develop new programs and offerings to help clients secure their future as the threat landscape moves beyond the enterprise.

Prior to joining EY US, Dave served as Global Cybersecurity Leader for PwC where he was responsible for helping corporate clients, law firms and the US Government in matters involving cybercrime investigations, complex data correlation/analysis and business transformation or operational initiatives.

“EY has been focused on expanding our cybersecurity footprint through significant investments in both talent and capabilities,” said Amy Brachio, EY Global and EY Americas Advisory Risk Leader. “Bringing Dave into the fold is just the latest example of that investment. Dave represents the future of our cybersecurity practice, bringing a wealth of experience that will accelerate our growth and increase our ability to help keep our clients safe from emerging cyber threats and adopt new technology solutions with confidence.”

The arrival of Burg coincides with a number of investments EY US has made in both talent and capabilities. EY US recently opened an advanced cybersecurity center in Dallas, TX, as part of EY wavespace™.

Earlier this year, EY US announced the acquisition of Aspect Security, which offers industry-leading application security (AppSec) services and solutions with leadership in the mobile technology, social media, and cloud computing domains. With Aspect Security’s team onboard, EY has increased its focused and comprehensive coverage on application and product security.

Additionally, EY US was recognized as a leader for Information Security consulting by Forrester in their report, The Forrester Wave™: Information Security Consulting Services, Q3 2017. According to the report, “EY stands out among the Big 4 for its security skills and technical assessments.”

“I’m thrilled to join EY at a time where businesses are being challenged more than ever by the emerging cyber threat landscape while harnessing new technology in a safe and secure manner,” said Burg. “In this Transformative Age, we see cybersecurity as a partner in innovation, not an inhibitor. By bringing this perspective to our clients, we can help accelerate the pace of transformation while reducing risks simultaneously.”

Burg has lectured at NYU’s Stern School of Business, Georgetown University and Penn State University and regularly contributes to a variety of business and industry journals, including The Wall Street JournalSC MagazineCSO magazine and Consulting magazine. He has also presented a wide range of topics at global corporations, law firms, industry events and government agencies.

Burg holds an MBA from the College of William and Mary and a BA from the University of Pennsylvania.
